Reading
What's happening in class?
Second grade is an awesome year in school when it comes to reading. As second graders continue to build and become confident in their reading abilities, we are able to delve deeper into stories and focus on comprehension skills. We'll be learning various strategies to help us become thorough readers and truly understand the stories we are reading. This will help students develop a love of reading and develop appropriate study skills that will be highly beneficial as they continue their education.
What should be happening at home?
In addition to the practice at school, home should also be a place to help foster a student's reading ability. In order for this to happen, students should be reading 15-20 minutes a night at home in addition to any other reading homework that is sent home with the student. Always have your student talk about what they have read for the night!
